Our Inspection robot operates on a shared road with light commercial vehicles (Utes). We need to build in behavioural protocol that will minimise the disruption caused to operations around the robot, with safety at the forefront.
PilotOS Software + Hardware:
Our robot, as shown below, moves into a parked position and pauses operation every three minutes for a period of 30 seconds to allow any flowing traffic to pass by. This behaviour is re-creating overtaking lanes as seen on Australian Highways. This behaviour is instilled into the robot using our PilotOS robot operating software.
The ability for the robot to be taught new behaviours has caused minimal disruption to the surrounding operation. In addition the exact and consistent timing of the parking manoeuvre makes the behaviour predictable to those around it, an important safety consideration.
